CGPA; Your World is Not Over

By : Mr. Ansarul Haq bin Tahrir Adli

CGPA is synonymous with the lives of university students. CGPA is related to students’ examination results. Every student wishes to score the best result every semester, but in reality, we don't always get what we want in life, instead we often get the opposite. However, not getting what we want and what we aimed for does not mean that we are bound to fail forever. Maybe there was a weakness in our previous method. It is undeniable that we will feel sad when such a situation occurs, but are we going to keep on being sad forever? Instead of crying over spilt milk, wouldn't it be better if we learn to improve our past weaknesses so we can perfect our future behaviour? Here I will share tips on how to keep on rising from past disappointments, and may everyone reap benefits from these tips.

Step 1: Create a goal

Set your goals for the new semester such as how much CGPA do you wish to attain? The goal has to be realistic and in line with your personal abilities. Example: I want to reach a 3.30 CGPA for this semester.

Step 2: Issues that you have faced

List down all the causes or issues which may have caused you to get low CGPA last semester.

Example: I only got 2.50 CGPA last semester. Among the reasons my GPA was low was because:

  • Last minute studying
  • Lack of seriousness when doing tasks given
  • Doing the tasks given at the very last minute
  • Lack of focus in class
  • Not understanding what the lecturers were teaching and being too shy to ask questions

Step 3: Actions

List down all the actions that you need to do in order to overcome the issues listed in Step 2.

Example: Will not study at the very last minute - the way to overcome this is by making a study schedule.

Step 4: Obstacles

List down all the possible obstacles that you will face when carrying out Step 3.

Example: Creating a study schedule - lack of knowledge on how to create an effective schedule.

Step 5: Support

List down all the support you can receive from other people in order to overcome the problem in Step 4.

Example: Lack of knowledge on how to create an effective study schedule - Can receive guidance and help from Counsellor, Lecturers or from another classmate who got excellent results.

Step 6: Timeline

This step is related to the expected time of when the individual wants to change or when they want to carry out the steps that they have to do. Do they want to change today, tomorrow or some other time?
