🎧 CIT CAT PUTRA FM WITH COUNSELOR: Work Life Balance

UPM Serdang, 29 September 2023 – CIT CAT Putra FM With UPM Counselors this time with the Head of UPM Counseling Division, Dr. Mazila Ghazali. The sharing was carried out on 29 August 2023, on Tuesday at 12.00 noon until 1.00 pm on the Putra FM channel. Interestingly, the topic this time is related to Work Life Balance, which is thought to be suitable for all listeners, especially the people of Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Lately, there has been a lot of emphasis made on the importance of achieving a balance between work and life (work life balance). Work-life balance is a concept where an individual gives optimal priority between work and life. This balance occurs when individuals allocate limited mental, physical and emotional resources in an appropriate manner to achieve desired goals.
Work-life balance does not mean time is divided into 50 percent work and 50 percent at home. This is the misunderstanding that often makes a person feel guilty when spending more time at work than at home or vice versa. In fact, each individual has different needs and it is the individual who knows best how to prioritize in life so that balance can be achieved. The balance will not be constant at all times because we need to constantly change it as needed. This is because everyone will have different priorities at each phase of life. The target of involvement is for UPM citizens and all listeners on PUTRA FM Frenkuensi FM 90.7 MHz (Around Seri Kembangan) and UPM's Counseling Division Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bkupm).

Dr. Mazila shares a way that can be used to assess the balance of work and life is through the wheel of life. Basically, the wheel of life is divided into sections or categories that are important to us. For example we can list what is important in our life and it is not necessarily the same as others. Among the examples that have been shared are career, finances, personal growth, relationships, health, family, social life and attitude.
It was also shared related to the symptoms of imbalance that will cause conflict within oneself and become the main cause of stress in life. Stress not only affects mental health but also interferes with physical and behavioral health. In addition, among the obstacles that are often found is time constraints, where time management and planning are very important. Not knowing what one wants in life, failing to set boundaries between work and family, pursuing career too much to the detriment of family, and vice versa.

Therefore, the balance between work and life is not an easy and perfect concept. Sometimes we have to sacrifice something to achieve something else. For that, we need to know what we want in life and avoid comparing our lives with others. The balance between work and life that we want to achieve is according to our wishes and definitions. The most important thing is that we value ourselves with the concept of I love my self so that we can balance between personal life and work. Where we want to excel in the organization and also excel at home and not burden others, both family and colleagues.

Hopefully with this sharing can increase self-motivation and the work of all listeners. Be an employee who always gives commitment to the work entrusted to us because our main source of sustenance is through the organization where we work. This sustenance will also be shared with the family. May our sustenance be blessed by Allah SWT.
