Academic Tour@Faculty of Engineering Strengthens Academic Management and Student Wellbeing

By: Muhammad Za’im bin Rosli

UPM SERDANG, 30 April - The Personal Development Section, Counselling Division of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the Civil Engineering Student Association, successfully organised the Academic Tour@Faculty of Engineering on 10 April 2026 at the Faculty of Engineering, ION2, Universiti Putra Malaysia. The programme, held from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., involved 60 targeted student participants.

The programme was designed to provide students with exposure to effective academic management through a structured, systematic and interactive module approach. It also aimed to enhance students’ motivation and academic performance while establishing a continuous academic and mental wellbeing support system throughout the semester via group coaching sessions facilitated by trained counsellors.

Throughout the programme, participants were introduced to essential competencies such as effective time management techniques, high-impact learning strategies, academic goal setting, and the importance of emotional balance in handling university-related stress. Interactive learning methods including group discussions, experience sharing, reflective exercises, and practical activities were conducted to ensure students could translate theoretical knowledge into real academic practice.

The impact of the programme was clearly evident as participants demonstrated improved understanding of systematic academic management through the structured module delivered. Students also showed increased motivation, greater self-confidence, and stronger awareness of the importance of self-management in achieving academic excellence. Noticeable improvements were also observed in their learning attitudes and study approaches.

More importantly, the implementation of group coaching sessions successfully established a sustainable academic and mental wellbeing support network among students throughout the semester. This initiative not only supports academic performance but also strengthens emotional resilience and psychological wellbeing in a holistic manner.

Overall, the programme reflects the continuous commitment of the UPM Counselling Division in enhancing holistic student development, in line with the university’s aspiration to produce well-rounded graduates who are excellent, resilient, and globally competitive.
