Counselor on Putra.FM: The Power of 5-Second Thought

By : Mrs. Anis Akmilah binti Mat Hassan K.B.;P.A.

SERDANG, January 13 - The Counseling Division of UPM continues its efforts to educate the campus community by collaborating closely with Radio Putra.FM to organize an inspirational talk session through the program "CITCAT with the Counselor" on December 10, 2024. The topic, titled “The Power of 5 Second Thought,” was presented by Counselor Mrs. Anis Akmilah. The talk was broadcast on FM Frequency 90.7 MHz (around the Klang Valley) and streamed live on the UPM Counseling Division’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/bkupm).

The discussion, led by radio host DJ Hanis, highlighted the importance of giving oneself space to make quick yet meaningful reflections using the 5-second thinking technique. According to Mrs. Anis, this technique helps individuals recognize their limitations and serves as a tool to break bad habits that have become ingrained.

“In five seconds, we have the opportunity to make a choice. Whether to continue acting based on emotion or to shift our focus to a more rational approach,” explained Mrs. Anis. She emphasized that this technique can help individuals become more self-controlled and aware when making decisions, especially in challenging situations.

Additionally, Mrs. Anis shared practical methods for applying this technique in daily life. Approaches discussed included identifying triggers for negative emotions, practicing deep breathing, and following the “stop, think, act” approach.

The session received positive feedback from listeners, who described the discussion as an encouragement for positive change in handling life’s challenges and improving emotional balance.

Programs like this reflect the Counseling Division of UPM's efforts to promote the mental well-being of the campus community by providing individuals with the opportunity to understand themselves and create positive change through small yet meaningful steps.
