Leadership Development Programme: Discover Your Potential

By : Mr. Muhammad Za’im bin Rosli

SERDANG, 29 June - The Counseling Division of Universiti Putra Malaysia (BKUPM) continued its efforts to develop holistic student leadership through the Leadership Development Programme: Discover Your Potential, conducted in collaboration with Persatuan Mahasiswa Islam Universiti Putra Malaysia (PMIUPM). The programme was held on 31 May 2026, from 8.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m., via Google Meet, attracting the participation of 185 students.

The programme aimed to strengthen participants' understanding of the psychological aspects of leadership while equipping them with essential self-leadership and interpersonal skills. It also focused on enhancing participants' ability to make sound decisions and solve problems effectively in organisational settings. Through an engaging and interactive online session, participants were encouraged to reflect on their leadership potential and understand how psychological principles influence leadership behaviours, communication, and teamwork.

Throughout the programme, participants gained valuable insights into the importance of emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and effective communication in becoming influential leaders. Practical discussions and interactive activities enabled participants to explore leadership challenges, develop critical thinking skills, and improve their ability to manage different situations within organisations. The session also highlighted that effective leadership begins with understanding oneself before leading others, making self-development a crucial foundation for future leaders.

In addition, the programme provided participants with opportunities to apply leadership concepts through case discussions and collaborative learning activities. These exercises enhanced their confidence in communicating ideas, working effectively in teams, and making informed decisions when faced with organisational challenges. The active participation demonstrated the students' enthusiasm for developing leadership competencies that are relevant to both academic and future professional environments.

Overall, the programme successfully achieved its intended objectives. Participants demonstrated improved knowledge of leadership psychology, enhanced communication and teamwork skills, and greater confidence in applying effective decision-making strategies during simulations and case-based discussions. The initiative reflects BKUPM's continuous commitment to nurturing resilient, competent, and psychologically empowered student leaders who are well-prepared to contribute positively to the university and society.
