SERDANG, 24 September - A total of 30 students from Kolej Canselor, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) participated in a Mental Health Awareness Talk held in conjunction with the 2025 UPM Mental Health Awareness Campaign. The programme was organised by the UPM Counselling Division (BKUPM) in collaboration with the management of Kolej Canselor. The session took place on September 11, 2025 at 11:30 AM at the Dusun Seminar Room, Kolej Canselor, UPM.
The talk, titled “Mental Health is Real: Don't Turn a Blind Eye,” was delivered by Mrs. Kemelia Omar, a counsellor from BKUPM and the appointed panel counsellor for Kolej Canselor.

The primary objective of this programme was to raise awareness among students about the importance of mental health care and to encourage more open conversations surrounding emotional well-being and the pressures of student life. Participants were introduced to the BKUPM Mental Health Module, which emphasises stress management, emotional regulation techniques, and the importance of social and professional support systems.
Through an interactive session, students were given the opportunity to share personal experiences, ask questions, and seek guidance directly from the counsellor. This approach enabled them to gain a clearer understanding of mental health realities, which are often misunderstood or overlooked.
In addition to targeting students generally, the programme also focused on student leaders, empowering them to act as peer support agents. The exposure was aimed at equipping them to identify early signs of stress among peers and to respond ethically and effectively.

BKUPM hopes that this initiative not only opens students’ eyes to the importance of mental health, but also helps to nurture a more caring, empathetic, and supportive campus community. Student leaders are also expected to become catalysts for change, supporting their peers towards better mental wellness. This reflects BKUPM’s continued commitment to holistic student well-being, in line with the university’s mission to produce graduates who are not only academically excellent, but also emotionally and mentally resilient.
