SERDANG, 9 May - In a continuous effort to strengthen mental wellbeing among students, the Buddies @Eng Series 2 programme was organised with the theme Mindfulness & Stress Management Clinic, held on 8 April 2026 at Level 3, PG Lounge, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia.
The programme targeted postgraduate students from the Faculty of Engineering, UPM, and was jointly organised by the UPM Counselling Division together with the Office of the Deputy Dean (Postgraduate & International), Faculty of Engineering, UPM. The programme aimed to provide a safe space for participants to share issues related to emotional, social, and mental wellbeing, while receiving appropriate support.
Through a group guidance approach, participants were divided into three small groups consisting of approximately five (5) to ten (10) participants per group. This method enabled more focused and meaningful interactions, while fostering an atmosphere of trust between participants and facilitators. The concept also highlighted the important role of peer support groups as a medium for peer-to-peer support. This approach provided participants with the opportunity to listen, understand, and support one another empathetically in a non-judgemental environment. A total of 22 participants took part in the programme.
The sessions focused on self-exploration and emotional management, where participants were guided to identify sources of stress and strategies to cope with them. In addition, interactive activities were conducted, including breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, grounding techniques, and mindfulness practices to help participants remain calm and become more aware of their own wellbeing.
Participants were also introduced to further information regarding the DASS-21 screening and self-management skills as an early step towards understanding their respective mental health conditions. Supporting materials such as training videos, practical sessions, and attendance forms were also provided to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme.
Overall, the organisation of this clinic reflects the continuous commitment of BKUPM and the University in nurturing a student community that is more balanced, resilient, and aware of the importance of mental health care.
