New Norm in Sharing through FB Live

SERDANG, June 20 - The Universiti Putra Malaysia (BKUPM) Counseling Division is taking the initiative to use social media medium, Facebook as a way of delivering useful partnerships with its campus, University Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Most recently during the term of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), BKUPM switched to social media platforms as a scholarly media medium with followers on BKUPM's Facebook Page.

In the meantime, all UPM employees and students are required to stay in their homes, BKUPM continues to fulfill its social responsibility of sharing knowledge with them. The sharing was presented directly by the counselors from the Counseling Division. Through the sharing in FB Live, three counselors have shared topics that  closely related to self-esteem issues in preparation for mental and psychological coping with the Covid-19 pandemic. The content of sharing was shared with BKUPM Facebook followers and is open to anyone with a Facebook account.

BKUPM's main goal is to run the program through FB Live, opening up opportunities and spaces for students and staffs to learn new knowledge while at home. The main focus of BKUPM is to disseminate a wealth of information that benefits individuals by maximizing the MCO period. The sharing concept is based on a personal matter, in which various skills of self-development can be practiced individually.

In the first FB Live series, hosted by Pn. Kamariah Derasol with Ustaz Hakim Mohd Noor discussing the topic of "How to stay positive at home". It was a great response as this was the first time BKUPM was doing online sharing. An overwhelming response from UPM residents and the community. Meanwhile, the second FB Live was hosted by Mrs Anis Akmilah Mat Hassan who talked about "How to manage stress in the face of a pandemic". Meanwhile, Mr. Haniff Abdullah Hashim shares "Stop Smoking, An Experience". The real life experiences sharing of Mr. Haniff is well received by the campus community as it is during this MCO period, each of them trying to create a new and healthier norm. A total of nearly 2000 views have been recorded for viewers watching FB Live, online and offline. In fact, with this method, each viewer can tap the 'share' button in their view so that their friends can view the share as well.

This webinar sharing program has been very welcoming to UPM students and employees. Given this kind of sharing, campus residents can still view the sharing at any time at their discretion.

By implementing such a program, BKUPM intends to continue to help the campus community to remain motivated in pursuing this new norm. Together we adopt new norms by creating new routines that bring benefits to ourselves and others.
