SERDANG, September 26 – To support the mental well-being of new students, the Psychological Measurement and Mental Well-Being Unit, Mental Health Section, Counseling Division of Universiti Putra Malaysia (BKUPM) took the initiative to conduct a Healthy Mind Screening Briefing (DASS-21) for Putra Facilitators at UPM. The session, held at Dewan Putra 2, UPM, was attended by 350 facilitators appointed to assist in the implementation of the screening process at residential colleges.

The briefing aimed to provide Putra Facilitators with a clear understanding of completing the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21) instrument and their role in assisting the screening process for new students registering at UPM on 4 and 5 October 2025. Participants were also exposed to methods of handling situations that may require referrals to counselors if students show signs of mental health concerns.
According to Puan Noorihayatti Noorudin (Program Coordinator), the implementation of this screening is part of BKUPM’s efforts to identify the mental well-being levels of new students and to provide early intervention for those in need of support. Guidance or counseling sessions will be offered to students requiring further assistance.
“We hope facilitators can play a vital role in ensuring that new students feel safe, confident, and open to undergo this screening. This is the first step towards building a mentally and emotionally healthier campus community,” she said.
This program reflects the university’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being of its campus community and strengthening the role of facilitators as psychosocial support peers for new students.
