Self-Help as BKUPM's Theme for Read@Uni Competition

UPM Serdang - The excitement and involvement of each responsibility center (PTJ) in the Reading Corner Competition or better known as the Read@Uni Corner is very exciting. Seeing the commitment of every PTJ involved in this competition in the past years strengthened the spirit of the UPM Counseling Division Team to join together and fuel the university's efforts to foster this reading practice at BKUPM.

Read@Uni is a Reading Campaign initiative organized by the Malaysian Ministry of Education as an effort to improve the reading habits of university students by 2030. At UPM, the Sultan Abdul Samad Library was appointed as the leader of this campaign. In addition to focusing on reading materials, this reading campaign also supports efforts to beautify the reading corner to attract the interest of UPM students and staff to take advantage of the corner by reading or having light discussion.

At UPM Counseling Division, Mrs. Anis Akmilah was appointed as the Officer Responsible for creating this Reading Corner. Mrs. Anis said, "the concept chosen by BKUPM is 'Helping Hand', in line with the task and professionalism of BKUPM which encourages students to help themselves (self help). In other words, reading is one of the self-help mechanisms that everyone can do. In addition to getting guidance and counseling services with counselors, clients can also gain insight through the right reading materials".

The enthusiasm and seriousness shown by the BKUPM employees cannot be denied anymore. Even the support of the Head of Division, Dr. Mazila never gives up on the efforts made. According to her, BKUPM's involvement in this competition is not aimed at winning the competition alone, the main focus is that every client who comes to UPM's Counseling Division can benefit even if it is just to accompany other friends. Hopefully Read@BKUPM’s corner will be utilized as well as support the government's efforts to improve reading practice among students.
