SERDANG, November 30 - The Self-Wellness Inspiration Slot BKUPM is an initiative by the Counseling Division of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) aimed at introducing the services offered to the UPM community while focusing on raising awareness about mental health, especially for new students. This year, the program was held at the Grand Hall, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural & Arts Centre, to highlight the importance of maintaining good mental health and the urgency of seeking early treatment for those in need.

The program took place on October 7, 2024, Monday, from 10:30 AM to 12:15 PM. The Self-Wellness Inspiration Slot was designed to enhance students' skills in identifying both verbal and non-verbal signs of individuals experiencing mental health crises. Students were also asked to complete the DASS 21 to assess their mental health status. Based on the results of the DASS 21 analysis, the Counseling Division of UPM will assist students showing severe or very severe levels of depression, anxiety, and stress by providing individual counseling sessions. These students will also be monitored by counselors throughout their studies to assess their ongoing mental health.

The program targeted 3,214 new students at UPM. The impact of this program is to raise students' awareness of mental health issues. Puan Izwana Ismail, the program slot coordinator, expressed, “We are grateful that this session was successfully carried out. The Counseling Division of UPM hopes that all students will understand and recognize the importance of maintaining good mental health and seek counseling services immediately if they encounter any issues throughout their studies at UPM.”
