UPM Serdang, October 30 - The program titled "Is Love Blind?" was successfully conducted via the Zoom Meeting platform as part of the series "An Hour with a Counselor," aimed at providing participants with a deeper understanding of the concept of love in life and its relationship with emotional well-being. The program, which took place on October 25, 2024, from 10 AM to 11 AM, received an encouraging response with 169 participants.
Attended by a diverse audience, the program featured Puan Anis Akmilah binti Mat Hassan, a certified counselor, as the main guest panelist. She discussed various types of love from psychological, religious, and scientific perspectives, aiming to provide a holistic view of how feelings of love influence individual well-being and how they relate to those around them. According to Puan Anis, the feeling of love is not only based on emotions but is also influenced by various factors such as personal experiences, cultural backgrounds, and how individuals build trust and self-esteem. In the session, she emphasized the importance of emotional health in developing healthy feelings of affection and how genuine love can bring goodness to a person's life.
Throughout the one-hour session, participants were given the opportunity to understand the concept of love languages, which can influence their communication styles and relationships. According to Puan Anis, understanding someone's love language is key to building closer and more effective relationships. Participants were encouraged to identify the love languages of their partners, family, and friends, which can help them express affection more effectively. This includes five types of love languages: words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, physical touch, and acts of service, all of which can help them build deeper relationships and understand the emotional needs of those around them.
This "An Hour with a Counselor" session also provided participants the chance to ask questions directly and interact with Puan Anis. The questions raised by participants covered various relationship issues such as how to deal with feelings of jealousy, recognizing signs of unhealthy love, and rebuilding trust in relationships. Puan Anis also provided guidance on techniques for managing emotional issues that often hinder personal happiness. She shared several simple strategies that participants could practice to manage their emotions and strengthen their relationships with others.
The positive feedback from participants reflects the importance of programs like this in providing insight and a deeper understanding of love and emotional management. Many participants expressed their gratitude and acknowledged that the topics discussed were highly relevant and beneficial in their lives. In addition to helping participants identify the concepts and elements of love functioning in their lives, the session also provided them with a new perspective on building more harmonious and balanced relationships.
This program aims to benefit all participants by enhancing their awareness of effective emotional management. Furthermore, it is hoped that the program can guide participants toward forming more positive relationships and fostering self-confidence in healthy interactions. With the success of this program, the Counseling Division of UPM plans to continue hosting impactful programs in the areas of mental, emotional, and social well-being.
In the future, similar programs are expected to attract even more participation not only among students and university staff but also the general public who need guidance in aspects of relationships and emotional well-being. The organization of programs like "Is Love Blind?" demonstrates that efforts to provide open psychological guidance are a vital step in educating the community about managing emotions and relationships more maturely and wisely.
