SERDANG, December 27 - In 2024, three book summary sessions were shared through the SINOPSIS Read@Uni BKUPM program. The first book reviewed was ‘The Courage to Be Disliked’, discussed by Cik Nurul Iffah binti Jauzi. The second book, ‘Letters to a Young Therapist’, was reviewed by Cik Najwa Nur Wahida Mohd Tarmizi, while the final book, ‘How To Enjoy Life And Your Job’, was summarized by Cik Ong Xin Ting. All of them are trainee counselors at the UPM Counseling Division.

The three book reviews were uploaded to the official social media page of the UPM Counseling Division on 12th November 2024, 27th November 2024, and 27th December 2024.

The purpose of the SINOPSIS Read@Uni program is one of BKUPM's initiatives to promote a reading culture and explore knowledge among the UPM community. We also encourage all visitors to BKUPM to use the reading space provided.

Let’s take a look at some highlights from the book How To Enjoy Life And Your Job by Dale Carnegie, summarized by Cik Ong Xin Ting. In this book, the author shares several tips for leaders on how to manage their employees or team effectively. Good leadership techniques create a more harmonious work environment, focusing on organizational success.

Some of the tips shared include:

i. Make yourself (the leader/boss/manager) a key decision-maker.
ii. Give appreciation to others/staff.
iii. View perspectives holistically.
iv. Kindness is better than aggression.
v. Seek facts together when there is a difference of opinion.
vi. Offer constructive criticism.
vii. Take responsibility as a leader.
viii. Plan and organize each action and strategy wisely.
ix. Listen carefully to criticism but stay focused.
x. Create fun in every job.

The author also emphasizes that a leader should regularly check their own well-being. Ask yourself, "Am I feeling exhausted?" "Am I maintaining a good work-life balance?" Success in life is not just measured by how well one performs at work but by overall happiness and enjoyment in life. This golden rule is summed up by the author with the quote: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” – (Matthew 7:12) by Candyce Carden.
