Tunas Bakti Knowledge Community Project

By: Mrs. Kamariah binti Derasol

SERDANG, 29 June - The Counseling Division of Universiti Putra Malaysia (BKUPM) continues to strengthen its commitment to community development through the implementation of the Tunas Bakti Knowledge Community Project, a collaborative initiative involving Sekolah Tunas Bakti Sungai Besi and the Sultan Abdul Samad Library (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia. The project, which runs from 14 June to 30 August 2026, had its first programme conducted on 14 June 2026, from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., at Sekolah Tunas Bakti Sungai Besi, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.

The programme involved a total of 37 participants, comprising students and members of the community. This initiative serves as a platform for knowledge transfer and psychosocial development through a community-based approach that focuses on self-potential development, motivation enhancement, and the promotion of reading culture among the residents of Sekolah Tunas Bakti. It also provides an opportunity for counselling trainees to gain valuable experiential learning through direct engagement with the community.

Throughout the programme, participants were exposed to various activities aimed at enhancing self-awareness, career exploration, and the development of motivation and self-confidence as preparation for life after institutional placement. In addition, a strong emphasis was placed on cultivating a reading culture through book donations contributed by publishers and individuals, allowing participants to expand their knowledge and develop lifelong learning habits.

The programme also served as an important platform in strengthening the strategic relationship between Universiti Putra Malaysia and the community through impactful outreach activities. The collaboration with Sekolah Tunas Bakti Sungai Besi and the Sultan Abdul Samad Library demonstrated a shared commitment to education, character building, and community well-being through the exchange of expertise and resources.

In addition to its positive impact on the participants, the project also contributed to in-kind resource generation through book donations from publishers and members of the public. This initiative not only enriched the reading materials available at the institution but also served as a catalyst in nurturing individuals who are more knowledgeable, confident, and prepared to reintegrate positively into society.

Overall, the Tunas Bakti Knowledge Community Project successfully achieved its objectives by enhancing motivation, self-confidence, and awareness of education among participants. BKUPM hopes that such strategic collaborations will continue in the future to expand community outreach efforts and support the university’s aspiration to produce resilient, knowledgeable, and socially responsible individuals.
