UPM SERDANG, 3 April - The Bahagian Kaunseling UPM continues to strengthen its student support services with the arrival of two new counsellor trainees from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), who commenced their industrial training from 30 March until 31 July 2026.

The trainees, Nursyafinaz binti Jamalias and Najihah binti A Rahman, are currently in Semester 8 of their counselling studies. During the training period, both will be placed in different sections under the UPM Counselling Division to gain comprehensive exposure to the operations and services of university counselling.

Nursyafinaz is assigned to the Personal Development Section, focusing on counselling and guidance sessions, self-development, psychological wellbeing, and student soft skills enhancement. Meanwhile, Najihah is placed in the Intervention and Psychotherapy Unit under the Mental Health Section, which emphasizes case management, counselling and guidance, psychological interventions, and student mental health support.

This industrial training forms an essential component of the academic curriculum, aimed at providing students with practical experience before entering the professional workforce. Throughout the programme, the trainees will be exposed to conducting counselling sessions, applying counselling theories and techniques in real-life scenarios, using psychological assessment tools, and managing clients ethically and professionally.

In addition, the trainees will have opportunities to participate in student development programmes, mental wellbeing workshops, and psychological awareness activities organised by the Counselling Division. Active involvement in these initiatives is expected to enhance communication skills, teamwork, and professional competencies in preparation for real-world career challenges.

The UPM Counselling Division extends a warm welcome and best wishes to both trainees. It is hoped that the experience gained throughout this training period will serve as a strong foundation in shaping them into competent, competitive, and professional counsellors.
