Each individual has different active hours based on their personality type. Some are "morning persons," who thrive in the energy and spirit of the early hours of the day, while others are "night owls," who appreciate the calm and atmosphere of the night, allowing them to move more freely.
Understanding whether you are a "morning person" or a "night owl" can help you identify the most productive times of your day, allowing you to make the best use of those periods. For example, someone wanting to learn something new can choose the time that suits them best to absorb knowledge effectively. Here are three signs that can help identify whether you are a "morning person" (MP) or a "night owl" (NO).
Personality
From a personality standpoint, morning persons (MPs) tend to be more disciplined, logical, introverted, and self-controlled. In contrast, night owls (NOs) are often more creative, risk-taking, enjoy freedom, and are impulsive.
Productivity
MPs are most productive in the morning. They are energetic and active, making it easier for them to perform tasks effectively compared to other times of the day. On the other hand, NOs are more productive at night. They tend to feel more at ease and calm in the cool, quiet atmosphere of the night, which allows them to explore new ideas freely.
Lifestyle
For MPs who value mornings, their day usually begins early with a productive routine. They tend to reserve their evenings for rest and relaxation. NOs, however, start their activities a little later and are usually less active in the morning. Their routine typically begins in the afternoon and continues into the late hours of the night.
Overall, being a morning person or a night owl does not determine who is the best. What is most important is how you maintain your health. Chronotype and a healthy lifestyle play a significant role in boosting confidence and well-being. Chronotype refers to an individual's sleep-wake pattern throughout the day (Adan et al., 2012). In other words, MPs are more likely to wake up early and sleep early, while NOs are more active later in the day and tend to sleep late at night.
