First of all, brothers/sisters need to be clear with the career focus for this field of biotechnology. A career in biotechnology is very important to support the improvement and development of various industries in Malaysia including agriculture, animal husbandry, food, medicine, manufacturing and also waste management. This is in line with the National Biotechnology Policy 2005-2020 to develop the field of biotechnology as one of the engines of economic growth. This policy focuses on the development of three economic sectors namely agriculture, health care and industrial manufacturing, as well as supporting the development of the scientific, academic and business community ecosystem (Source: Website of the Faculty of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences)
The following is career information for Bachelor of Science Biotechnology with Honors students or graduates:
1) Scientist / Medical Laboratory Technology Manager
A scientist's job is to conduct research in a laboratory. Their duties include laboratory management, preparation and handling of materials and equipment, maintenance of the laboratory and equipment, as well as management before, during, and after research. These people work in diagnostic laboratories such as gribbles, pathlab, chemlab, gnosis, bp healthcare, hospitals and so on.
2) Laboratory Assistant/ Research Assistant (Junior)
The main task of this laboratory assistant is to carry out tasks according to the established laboratory safety rules. In addition, these lab assistants manage the needs of teaching aids in the lab and display lab safety rules and guidelines. The duties of this laboratory assistant also focus on helping researchers or scientists conduct research in the laboratory and outside the laboratory. Industry for this position is widely offered in Universities/Institutes of Higher Education.
3) Quality Control (Biotechnology)
In the food production industry, the role of QC (Biotechnology) is to control the production of food or products before they reach the customer. Their job is to ensure the control of expiration dates and chemical production in food.
4) Microbiologist
The job of a microbiologist is to research the physiology of microorganisms. They also research the interaction of microorganisms with humans and other animals. They also regularly work in the development of drugs and vaccines to combat pathological microorganisms as well as develop methods of using certain microorganisms in food production and preservation. In addition, they developed systems to combat and control microorganisms in water treatment. Some also have the task of creating a food safety management system.
5) Biochemist
The job of this position is as a researcher who studies the effects of drugs, hormones and nutrients on the human body.
