Many are still fettered by the attitude of procrastinating. Among the reasons is their own thinking, some think that the work that has been delayed will eventually be completed. There are also cases of not wanting to be burdened with continuous work if completing more work. In their opinion the faster the work is completed the more work will be given afterwards. So the rounds of postponing this work continue from time to time. Procrastination may also be caused by the feeling of wanting perfection too much, so deciding that if it is not perfect it is better not to complete it, or it will only be sent when it is perfect later.
Whatever the cause, it turns out that this procrastination does more harm than good. Among the consequences are low work performance evaluations, difficulty fulfilling assigned responsibilities, failing to complete tasks and burdening other colleagues/classmates.
This procrastination problem plagues 25 percent of workers. While 50 percent of college/university students face the same problem. The key to getting out of the shackles of procrastination is with the awareness to change and the willingness to step out of the comfort zone.
When getting an assignment. What is in the mind is obstacles, difficulties, lack of confidence, beyond the ability and already expecting the negative consequences of work that is not successfully completed. As a result, some decide to get rid of the discomfort, by postponing work or not doing the work at all. When you are pushed and desperate, start the work as entrusted. As a result, the quality of the work is not satisfactory.
This procrastinating behavior is the result of automatic negative thinking. In some cases, these negative thoughts are unavoidable. The solution is to re-rationalize the thought. The way is to try to understand the newly assigned task. many situations where the expectations of the recipient of the assignment exceed the requirements of the assignment given.
When thinking is rational and clear. think about the advantages or satisfaction that will be obtained if you can complete the job. Many people think that assignments are a burden. On the other hand rarely responding to assignments is one way to improve self-skills and opportunities to get out of the comfort zone.
Break tasks down into smaller tasks. if the period of time is still long. Divide it into small task groups. Then start working on completing the task little by little. Focus on the current task, don't think about the next task before the time comes. At the end of each small task. a short break, before starting a new small task.
There are two things that encourage procrastination. Firstly because thinking about the task is too difficult to carry out and secondly because the task is too easy to carry out and can be done at the last minute. So accept the task with a simple attitude, tell yourself that no job is too difficult, no task is too easy. Be fair to each task, so that each task can be completed well.
Tasks are responsibilities. Like it or not, must be resolved. Another problem often faced by individuals is too much desire for perfection. whereas it is quite impossible to achieve perfection in carrying out tasks. Individuals need to lower the benchmark, and measure the shirt on their own body. based on the scope of time available. try to do your best, the rest is beyond your ability. However, this is not a license to be careless. On the contrary procrastinating can only leave a positive impact. if only for a while and need time to rest the mind and body for a while. but if too often it interferes with the task and leads to addiction. Need to find the best solution. The best intervention is to practice discipline and structure tasks well. However, with every good effort, there will definitely be obstacles. Discipline yourself and change your mind. Try to re-evaluate the improvement actions that can be taken. don't give up on yourself. Instead, try to convince yourself that you will definitely be able to control your behavior well and so on.
