Build Mental Resilience

Written by : HANIFF ABDULLAH HASHIM, K.B, P.A

The human mind is like the human muscle that needs to be trained to increase its strength. Among the factors that cause mental resistance to become less resistant are some toxic thinking traits. Thinking traits are likely to be newly learned by individuals through the environment and learning, and may even become habits over a long period of time. Among the thinking traits that can affect a person's mental endurance are:
1). Feeling very unlucky
When an obstacle, failure or test happens to oneself, thoughts tend to express excessive sympathy to oneself. Thinking begins to compare oneself with others, the individual tends to moan to himself why this is happening to him and why others are luckier.
2). Stuck in a situation
Thoughts also tend to form a belief that one is trapped in a situation with no way out. This thinking prevents the individual's creativity to find a way out, and will even cause the individual to feel hopeless and out of his mind to act.
3). No one understands
The truth is that only the owner himself understands what is playing in his thoughts. But generalizing that no one understands the problem at hand can lead to isolating behavior. What needs to be done is to assume that if other people understand only 50 or 60 percent of the current situation that is enough.
4). The environment is not fair.
Fair or not the environment is something very subjective and difficult to measure. Therefore instead of continuing to blame the environment that is interpreted as unfair, it is recommended to arbitrate how to find a way out or make the current environment more comfortable.
5). Fate is always on your side.
The law of an effort is not necessarily successful. If you are not successful, try again in a new way, depending on fate is like sitting on the edge of an abyss without any effort to get out of there. Try to find a way out of the current situation and not just rely on time and luck.

Mental ability and endurance are different from each other. Therefore do not despair if you are faced with a very strong emotional situation. Try to put aside the toxic thoughts that have been in your mind and try to focus on improving your potential.
