BUILD POSITIVE HABITS

By: Mrs. Kamariah binti Derasol K.B.;P.A.

Identify the habits you want to build

Change the environment positively
The environment can influence a person's motivation to change. To give a signal to the brain that you want to change, one of the ways is to change the physical environment. For example, to start healthy eating habits, remove junk and less nutritious foods from the fridge, kitchen and dining table. To exercise more diligently after work, use the path near the gym, field or recreation area. The location will facilitate the process of stopping for a while and exercising for at least 30 minutes.

Make new habits worthwhile
Changing new habits requires a strong desire to start and continue. Naturally, the motivation to change will be higher when there is a satisfying reward, whether it is a reward

Simplify the process of building new habits
New habits are easier to build if the process is made simple. For example, to take supplements every day, put a bottle of water and supplements on the bedside table. Just have it within arm's reach before going to bed every day. Isn't that easy?

Get an accountability partner
In order to be more enthusiastic about changing in a positive direction, the presence of responsibility partners, mentors can provide motivation to maintain the momentum of change. These people can help you by reminding you of the goals you want to achieve. For example, you want to lose weight by eating healthy. There are times when you indulge in overeating, and are reprimanded by friends who both want to lose weight in a healthy way.

Little but consistent
To build new habits, the important thing is consistency, or istiqamah in doing the habits you want to change. For example, if you want to aim for 10,000 steps a day, start at a pace you can afford first. Start with 1000 steps and increase the number every week periodically, to 1500 steps and so on.
