UPM SERDANG, 3 March - Efforts to strengthen mental well-being within the university community continued through the Buddies @ENG (Series 1): Introduction and Healthy Mind Screening programme held from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. at the Seminar Hall, Fakulti Kejuruteraan UPM. Categorised as a mental well-being programme, it was organised in collaboration with the Bahagian Kaunseling UPM and attended by 38 participants, including students, staff and faculty community members.
Designed as an early screening initiative, the programme aimed to identify participants’ mental well-being levels, particularly among postgraduate students facing academic, emotional and social challenges. The initiative emphasised preventive and early intervention approaches, focusing on stress management, mindfulness practices and positive coping strategies.
Participants were introduced to the importance of early mental health screening and counselling interventions to help them manage stress and emotional challenges more effectively. A key highlight was the introduction of the Peer Support Circle, a structured peer-support initiative that encourages a supportive environment and reduces feelings of isolation.
The programme positively impacted participants’ mental well-being by increasing awareness, knowledge, and coping skills, enabling them to handle academic and career challenges more resiliently and with balanced approaches.
Moreover, the programme provided a valuable platform for participants to build positive social networks, share experiences, and strengthen interpersonal relationships. This approach not only enhances individual coping capacity but also fosters a culture of support and empathy within the faculty, contributing to a more harmonious and caring campus community.
Overall, Buddies @ENG Series 1 successfully reinforced mental well-being among the Faculty of Engineering community and supported the university’s mission to cultivate a healthier, inclusive, and thriving campus environment.
