Abbreviation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and or Intersex. It is a term used in the early 90s until now. LGBT is taken from the abbreviation LGBT which was initially used as a replacement for the expression 'gay community' (gay community). Today LGBT is used to indicate someone or anyone who has a different sexual orientation and gender identity based on traditional norms, which is heterosexual. Simply put, people who have a sexual orientation and non-heterosexual identity such as homosexual, bisexual, or otherwise can be called LGBT.
The following are the steps that need to be taken according to the Islamic perspective:
Every action begins with a goal. How strong the intention to change depends on how much effort is made. The real effect can only be measured by a person's intention. Others forcing you is only temporary. In Islam, the main goal of every effort is to achieve the pleasure of Allah.
True repentance to Allah for sins that have been committed is known as nasuha repentance. The second step is to find out whether a person's desire to change really exists or is only verbally stated. Nasuha repentance means asking Allah for forgiveness for all sins and immoral acts, including sexual acts. The first time it is done, this nasuha repentance will certainly feel heavy.
Among the things that can be done is to eliminate all things that can remind or encourage same-sex sexual orientation, such as pornographic pictures and videos, the phone number of the "beloved" partner, and other media that can lead to homosexual acts. Psychologically, physically distancing oneself from things that are liked helps the mind forget them quickly. One of the efforts that will lead oneself to the path that is pleasing to Allah is to try to avoid doing things that remind one of the homosexual world. In addition, no longer doing past acts related to homosexual acts, for example, masturbating while imagining making love with the same sex, or enjoying technological media related to homosexuality.
After repenting, the next goal is to fulfill or restrain sexual desire. Sexual results must be developed according to Islamic law, namely by getting married for those who can. If they cannot marry, the only way to reduce their sexual desire is to fast, as recommended by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Fasting reduces sexual desire. The temptation to follow a sexual orientation to the same sex will be reduced by satisfying sexual desire. In addition, energy can be channeled to other more beneficial things.
One of the most important things to prevent future desires is to respect ourselves before Allah. The spirit to change will remain alive and will not be extinguished when we think about our honor and self-respect (in the hereafter), as well as the honor of our family, relatives, and friends.
Perhaps there is no one else who can directly help in implementing the change. Therefore, the transformation of same-sex or bisexual sexual orientation must be done consistently and continuously. One way is to convince oneself and others. Do this anytime and anywhere. It is very useful to build the right expectations and desires if it is done correctly and accurately.
Our lives as members of society are greatly influenced by our environment, whether we realize it or not. Our thoughts, lifestyle and other things, including sexual attraction, will be influenced to some extent by the community or place we live in. If we see an environment where harmonious relationships between husband and wife, children and family are built based on Islamic norms and laws, we will be more confident to abandon homosexual activities.
Changing sexual orientation is a challenging process and requires patience. Do the process with full confidence and trust in Allah. Indeed, good goals will be achieved with good intentions and right actions. One way to gain patience is to constantly remember Allah. This is because Allah has promised that the heart of a servant who continues to remember Him will become calm and peaceful.
Conclusion
Generally, based on guidance from the Quran and Hadith, laws and cultural norms of Malaysian society, LGBT behavior is unacceptable. However, this does not deny LGBT people the right to seek guidance and advice. This methodology is in line with the principles of Islamic dakwah because it provides an opportunity for those who commit sins and immoralities to improve themselves and seek forgiveness from Allah.
