Author: Haniff bin Abdullah Hashim K.B,P.A

Friendship is a form of relationship that is important to maintain emotional well-being, help each other, advise and do activities together. But the friendship relationship is not a chain that binds each member in a group, so much so that individuals do not have time to do personal activities, explore interests and improve skills.
Therefore, in a relationship it doesn't matter if the group is big or small. You need to have assertive skills, so as not to drift in the relationship and forget your own life goals and direction.
Assertiveness is a firm action to express an opinion and dare to say yes or no when it comes to your rights. Assertiveness is the middle way to aggressive actions, which are only selfish actions without protecting the rights of others and passive, which is actions only according to other parties without protecting one's own rights. The basic principle in assertive action is to take care of one's own rights while not taking the rights of others for one's own benefit.
Your act of rejecting a friend's request to accompany a friend to the movies because you need to complete an assignment is one of the assertive actions. You consider the pros and cons of things and make decisions rationally.
Based on experience, knowledge and maturity in distinguishing between good and bad. Important assertiveness is practiced in every aspect of the facility. Releasing an assertive attitude allows individuals to lose their identity, waste a lot of time and neglect their own interests in terms of academics, personal, morals and direction.

Assertiveness is a learned attitude. we try to learn it by improving self-confidence by giving the impression that you also deserve to be heard and express your opinion. Apart from that, learn to communicate well, start training to be brave while communicating. Understanding other people's personalities that are different from ourselves so that it is easy to accept differences of opinion and not get carried away by unnecessary feelings. Don't always agree to other people's requests, you need to look at something, the main thing is yourself. Respect other people's opinions as you want to be respected.
