Interested in becoming a counselor? That's good! Let's first understand about this counselor's career. The definition of the term counselor is defined as a person who is qualified to be a guide and advisor to other people who are facing problems, a person who is able to provide counseling services (Kamus Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Third Edition (2002).

Meanwhile, referring to the Public Register (October 2001) manuscript defines a counselor as a profession trained in the field of counseling or related fields such as career, marriage, sexual, education, management and others. Counselors are also able to act as guides by providing information and suggestions to help clients identify their own abilities and make changes and make decisions and set goals. In government employment, the position of counselor is named as Psychological Officer.

You can refer to the general requirements and qualifications to become a counselor as below :-

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS OF COUNSELORS
1) General Qualifications:
· A bachelor's degree in counseling or a qualification recognized as equivalent by the government or
· Degree in another field and have a master's degree in counseling.
· An honors bachelor's degree and a Diploma in Clinical Psychology or a qualification recognized as equivalent by the government.
· Pass Bahasa Malaysia/ Bahasa Melayu (including passing the oral test) at the SPM level or a qualification recognized as equivalent by the government.
· However, priority is given to candidates who have a degree in behavioral science or counseling.
