Three "Durry" Mischiefs

"Slowly, slowly!" a girl whispered loudly. Another girl glared, "Shh, you're the one being loud here," whilst slowly pulling out snacks from the cupboard. The little boy was silently watching his other two sisters bickering as he twirled his hair.

These three siblings were only one year apart. Seven, six and five years old respectively. They were the three mischiefs, mostly two, but that didn’t matter as the sisters claimed that all three of them was one team especially when they got into trouble.

Ana, the oldest sister. The leader of the mischiefs. Witty and smart with her excuses. However, those lips wouldn’t always win. Once, green chilli struck those lips because mother shoved them into her mouth due to her spiteful remarks. She quickly went to the bathroom to get rid of the taste that was burning her tongue. She understood that she deserved it but then again, why was Aina also in the bathroom?

Aina, the younger sister. The loyal follower. She was also in the bathroom because she agreed with Ana’s words. Mother was just being fair. Aina admired her sister a lot that she followed her every actions. Even her clothes were based on what Ana wore.

Anas, the youngest brother, quiet and behaved one. Whilst his sisters pulled out each other's hair, he would play with his blocks and puzzles. He was always being held by mother due to his soft nature. However, still, he liked making trouble when necessary.

One day, the three of them were discussing about father. "We need to do something," the leader initiated the conversation. Other siblings were just munching on the snacks that they 'borrowed' from the cupboard.

"Listen!" Ana hastily said. " I think we need to steal it," Ana added. "Steal it? How?" Aina asked with a worried expression on her face. "Don't worry," Ana had a plan.

Anas slowly shoved down the rest of the snacks into his mouth and nodded playfully.

Ana laid out her plan on an A4 paper and drew pictures of the plan because the other two did not know how to read yet. They agreed and waited for the next day to proceed with their master plan.

Next day, it was the usual routine. Father came home from work after late night shifts and slept in the living room. It was Saturday, the kids were up early. Three mischiefs slowly went upstairs into their parents' bedroom. Ana scanned the whole bedroom and spotted it. The jeans.

Normally, father would leave his pair of jeans that he used behind the door. All of them stood in a circle, surrounding the target. Ana rummaged through the pockets and slightly panicked as she could not find anything but then she moved to the back pockets. Found it.

A box of cigarettes.

Next plan was to make sure that nobody saw them sneaking outside. The sisters left Anas in the living room to ensure that father slept soundly. The sisters sneaked outside with the box of cigarettes.

Aina looked at her older sister, "So, who should do it?"

"Let's do it together," Ana replied.

They held the box of cigarettes and threw it deep into the bushes in front of their house. They did it, they got rid of it. The three kept on with the plan for several weeks until finally, they could not find any cigarette box in father’s pockets anymore.

"Does father know? Are we going to get in trouble?" Aina asked. "I don't know," Ana was worried. They decided to ask.

"Father, do you still smoke…," Ana was about to ask but father added, "It was a waste of money anyway, especially when I didn’t have the chance to use any of them." Apparently, father knew right away.

"Are you upset with us?" Ana asked their concern. "Of course not. How could I be upset when you did the right thing?" father answered softly. They all smiled except Anas. He was lagging a bit but Aina explained in the simplest term.

"Father won’t smoke anymore," Anas giggled and jumped into mother’s arms. Mother knew about the plan too but she did not say anything. She just felt proud of them silently.
